A Surprisingly Easy Braid Wrapped Updo Tutorial

All summer long I experiment with different cute hairstyles that are as cute and flattering as they are convenient. I mean, when it’s over 110 degrees every day for weeks on end, there’s only so much hair a girl can tolerate on her neck. While many of you probably aren’t dealing with temps that extreme, there’s no doubt about it: summer is h-o-t HOT! And bless those of you working with humidity, because this chica can’t deal.

Anyway, I’m delighted to inform you that I’ve devised the perfect summer updo. It’s sweet, it’s cool and it definitely helps keep me cool. I love that it’s flexible, as well. You can complete the two twisted side sections and then create a sock bun, curl it out, or create a braid that cascades down your neck. You’ll see below, but I went with two braids and looped them back up.

Step 1: Part and Braid

Part hair and then braid one section of hair starting at the front. Repeat on the other side. I always wear my hair parted a little off center, but go ahead and part wherever you usually do.

Step 2: Wrap Your Braids

In small sections, begin wrapping hair around each braid. You can check out the video for more clarity on how to do this. It’s fairly straight forward, but does require a little hand coordination. Secure with bobby pins.

Step 3: Repeat

Repeat the wrapping motion on your other braid and secure. See how the braid peeks out while getting that swooping twisted section? Pretty cute, huh?

Step 4: Divide and Braid Again

Divide the remaining hair into two sections and create two additional braids. Keep these a little loose. It makes them easier to handle and creates some soft and dreamy texture.

Step 5: Loop Braids Up

Take your left braid and secure it against the right twisted section. Secure with bobby pins. Repeat on the other side, making sure to tuck in the ends and tame all those flyaway pieces. You can finish with a touch of hairspray to keep everything in place throughout the day.
