VALENTINE’S GIFT GUIDE

post + graphic design by Norah Curlee

To all the boyfriends, husbands and man-friends out there attached to one of our lovely readers… this one is for you. Flowers and candy are nice but let’s think inside the beauty box this year and get her something she can add to her beauty stash. We understand, for the most part, you are clueless in this arena and that’s ok! Treat this gift guide of V-day stunners as a shopping list for your sweetie. And ladies… we also give you permission to send this post along to your man (tweet it, email it, print it) to make sure he get’s it right on the big night! Just as important, all our single ladies: these make amazing Valentine’s Day swap ideas for your girlfriends.

Clinique Cheek Pop in Berry Pop: A new launch from Clinique brings these super fun/floral blushers. Virtually powerless, they give a really natural finish and offer four hues…we particularly love the shade Berry Pop for a rosy flush!

Urban Decay Afterglow Cheek Tint: This is a total stunner. It’s a creamy cheek stain that applies easily and creates a no fuss flush that we can’t get enough of. A dab of this patted onto the apples with your ring finger and you are all set.

Physicians Formula Happy Booster Blush: We can’t enter a drugstore without checking out this fun line from Physicians Formula. Other than the fact that it’s laden with a precious pink heart pattern…this budget beauty brings the glow and we like it.

Besame Cheeked Rouge in Crimson: Can we firstly talk about the packaging? Vintage glory. This throw-back to the rouge from the 40′s brings bold apples to the forefront and the creamy gel texture leaves things looking natural not cakey!

Tarte Cheek Stain in True Love: When it comes to cheek color…Tarte never fails to bust out the big guns. This gel-based cheek stick has a rounded top for easy peasy application. It’s a light-weight glow-getter that ranks high on our list!

Smashbox O-Plump: This one plumps and colors your kisser just in time for Valentine’s. What makes this gloss special over the other plump-ers is it actually works with your natural body chemistry and creates a custom pout individual to you. Sounds pretty VIP to us.

Dior Nail Glow: Quite possible the perfect product for those “screw it, I have no time for a manicure” days. It’s a universal shade that, you guessed it, enhances the color of your natural nails and looks different on everyone. It makes the pinks pinker and the whites whiter making your nails glow from within. Gorgeous and simple!

Eccentric Molecule 01: This is unlike any fragrance you will ever wear. Upon first impression, you don’t notice a specific scent…but others will! It’s actually an aroma chemical, not a perfume and it’s unique scientific formula evolves the longer you wear it combining your own natural scent. Totally alluring.

Givenchy Le Rose Révélateur Magic Lip Gloss: The search for finding the perfect custom rosy hue for your lips in gloss form ends here. Appears clear in the tube, but when applied it adjusts to look like your lips but better…literally. It is as unique as the lovely who wears it!

Stila Custom Color Blush: This blush takes the guess work out of picking a blush color. One shade fits all working with your body’s PH to create a perfectly personalized hue. As a bonus, it’s has a ultra-blendable and velvety smooth finish.

Diptique Roses Candle: This little beauty gives you all the wonderful scent of a dozen roses without all the water, vases, wilting and hassle. A non-cliche bouquet that lasts for months and months and looks gorgeous sitting on a vanity/dressing table.

YSL’s La Laque Couture Nail Lacquer in Rose Romantique: Couture at your finger tips. No pun intended. This gorgeous pale rose shade looks beautiful and classic on the nails. It has a creamy formula that can be worm shear with one coat or opaque with a few coats!

Aerin Rose Lip Conditioner: This pretty pale nude/pink balm adds natural color while it’s intense lip conditioners do their thang to give you a kissably soft pout. A must for V-Day smooches!

Vestige Lipstick Holder: This is a vanity top’s best friend. A gorgeous brass holder to house your favorite lipsticks worthy of a prominent display. Easy to reach for a hue while getting ready!

Prince Charming Limited Edition Shower Gel by Lush: Lush knows how to bring the love every year with their Valentine’s day goodies. The cutely named “Prince Charming” shower gel has a fun and flirty scent of pomegranate and grapefruit that is sure to sweep you off your feet!

Cake Pop Art Flat in Pink: She’ll be able to show off all of her fun pedicures with these adorable peep-toed jelly flats. Adorned with a black heart, they are perfect for a Valentine’s Day surprise to stride with love the rest of the year!

Too-Faced Sweetheart’s Perfect Flush Blush: Another packaging front runner, we can get on board with pretty much anything shaped like a heart. And the glowing shimmer of this rosy blush is gorgeous on the skin!

Chanel Nail Varnish iPhone 5 case: If you can’t have fun with your phone case then when can you? This crazy Chanel polish printed iPhone case is perfect for any beauty lover. It is even available in several of Chanel’s classic shades! Adorbs!

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not nail wraps: Be still our beating heart. These adorable hand illustrated nail wraps are so whimsical and romantic. We are already picturing them on our tips for V-Day! (Don’t worry, if he buys you these…he definitely loves you)

Lime Crime Velvetines in Pink Velvet: It’s perfectly pink crushed velvet for your lips. A gorgeous formula, a gorgeous color, amazing packaging…what’s not to love? It’s also super easy to apply and mega-long lasting. (These babies don’t budge)

Let’s Go Steady necklace by Kate Spade: We think the big decision to make things official should be with jewelry (obvi) and what better way to seal the deal than with this adorable idiom necklace from Kate Spade. We love the retro saying. :)

Floral Musings: 5 Flower-Infused Hairstyles

Even though most of the country is buried under loads of that cold white stuff, spring is nigh. Can you feel it? We can. All those snowbirds are getting ready to head back home, flowers are gearing up to show their faces to the sun and old man winter is preparing for retreat. You’ve just gotta hold out a little while longer.

Maybe we’re getting ahead of ourselves, but we’re just so excited about the prospect of spring that we have to do a flower-inspired roundup of hairstyles. Every hairstyle you see below incorporates either real or faux flowers into your locks. Enjoy!

Inverted, Cascading Braid With Rope & Daisies

Alyssa over at xoVain is just as ready for spring as we are. For this hairstyle, she created some daisy hair accessories with some dollar store faux daisies attached to bobby pins. Then she grabbed a section of hair on one side of her head, added a ribbon and created a cascading braid across the back of her head. The strategically placed daisies are the perfect finishing touch!

2-1 Milkmaid Braid and Flower Crown Hair

Starting at about one minute into this video, YouTube user Veronica Anne walks you through one of the prettiest milkmaid braid tutorials ever. She has long hair that she’s curled, so feel free to do the same with your tresses. You’ll want medium to long hair for milkmaid braids in order to get a nice and full finished result. If your hair is short, consider adding some extensions. Veronica uses a flower crown accessory, which you can make or buy, to create a super sweet end result.

Twisted Maiden Braid Bun with Floral Garland

We simply can’t resist the Sincerely, Kinsey blog. Her photographs are stunning, her tutorials are on point and her ideas are always well executed. This hairstyle is a variation of the above, only it’s more bun-like. The best part is that you can take some creative liberty with this look in order to create a finished product that appeals to you. Kinsey finishes the look with some floral garland wrapped around her head, available at your local craft store. Perfection!

DIY Bloomin’ Locks Hair

There’s something about the upbeat, quirky disposition of Mr. Kate that we find simply irresistible. In this tutorial, she teaches you how to get an easy, messy hair bun punctuated with pretty blossoms. She’s got a video up on her blog along with some inspiration from other bloggers and tips/tricks to help you perfect the look. Mr. Kate’s a fan of real flowers, but you can always go faux. For inexpensive options, head to your local florist to see if they have any scraps they’re willing to part with for cheap. Alternatively, buy in-season buds to keep costs down.

Paper Flower Hair Accessory

While real flowers totally have their appeal, the faux variety can offer just as much beauty. For example, these DIY paper flowers detailed by guest blogger Ally over at Paper & Stitch are super lovely and whimsical. Best of all, you can have them even in the dead of winter! Follow the full tutorial on the blog, then thoughtfully place them in your hair wherever you like. For example, we love how Ally placed them around her sock bun.
