Weekend Link Roundup http://ift.tt/2wnnRio

Zayan The Label “Netta” dress

Happy weekend! I’m back from Greece and have lots of photos to show you, but first I have the daunting task of sorting through them all. It’s such a beautiful place, I went a little snap happy. So while I sift through all of my photographic souvenirs and unpack my bags (because I haven’t done that yet), check out some links I’ve been clicking on.

A DIY Avocado Hair Mask That Actually Works

Show me any restaurant menu and I’ll likely order the item that comes with avocado. It’s chock-full of healthy fats, its texture is hearty and satisfying, and it tastes so, so good. As we all know, eating it does some good things for your body, but applying it topically promises numerous benefits, as well.

Though it’s possible you haven’t tried it yourself, we’re sure you’ve heard of putting avocado in your hair. No matter how messy you think it’ll be, though, and no matter how weird you think it seems, we cannot back the avocado for hair treatment enough. Using avocado hair masks is one of the best things you can do for your hair!

Avocado acts as a shine-boosting, ultra-moisturizing hair treatment in and of itself. Today, however, we’re adding another ingredient to this mask: fenugreek seeds. If you haven’t heard of this ingredient, fenugreek is a spice that’s often used in curries to add a subtle hint of earthy sweetness.

Fenugreek has also been heralded as a potent ingredient in hair treatments. Not only does it promote hair growth when used at the scalp, it strengthens the hair while simultaneously softening it. It’s a truly outstanding ingredient.

Some people soak the seeds in water and then do a fenugreek rinse after shampooing, but for this recipe we’re going to grind them. Here’s the how-to:

diy-avocado-hair-mask

Step One: Grind Fenugreek Seeds
This recipe calls for approximately two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds. You can find these in the bulk section and most health food stores. Alternatively try looking online or at establishments that sell Asian or Indian spices. Grind the seeds with either a mortar and pestle, or with a spice grinder.

Step Two: Combine with Avocado
Mash one soft, ripe avocado. Add the ground fenugreek and mix well.

Step Three: Apply to Hair
Apply the mashed avocado and fenugreek mixture to your hair. It may get a little messy, so do this in the bathroom, or even in the shower itself.

Step Four: Wait
Place a shower cap over your hair and let the mask set for 10 to 20 minutes. The longer it sets, the better. After the time has elapsed, rinse it out with shampoo and follow up with conditioner, per normal.

Step Five: Style
Style your hair as usual and note the difference in texture and shine. You can repeat once a week, or every other week, to maintain softness and shine, and to strengthen the hair shaft.

If you loved this avocado hair mask recipe, then you’ll really love this lavender-infused coconut oil for hair treatment as well!

The Easiest Knotted Updo Tutorial You’ll Ever Try

Hello! This is Melissa from MissySue.com and I am excited to share this ridiculously easy knotted updo tutorial with you today. For once it pays to have your hair all knotty because this hairstyle is done by actually tying it!

This knotted ‘do is perfect because it is one of those styles that can be worn with sunglasses and a pair of jeans during the day, or a little sequined dress and some heels in the evening. I am sure with everything we do all day, having a hairstyle that can transition from day to night is always a must-have in our beauty regimen.

This hairstyle really does require a little bit of hair tying, but the back portion can be changed up to accommodate any type of knot or wrapped bun. Just play around a little bit and see how it works out for you. This can literally be worn nearly anywhere and is the perfect everyday hairstyle!

Easiest-Knotted-Updo-Tutorial

The Easy Knotted Updo Tutorial:

1. Begin with a part on the right side, then separate off a square section of hair from the part down to eye level.

2. Pick up a small section of hair next to the part and divide it into two halves.

3. Cross the back half over the front so it creates a small space between the two strands.

4. Wrap the tail through the hole created so the hair forms half a knot.

5. Pull it tight so it lays against the head and pick up small sections of hair, adding them into each strand.

6. Create a second knot by crossing the back strand over the front, then looping the end through the hole before pulling it tight again.

7. Repeat step 6, bringing in hair and tying it into knots.

8. Continue tying knots until it reaches the end of the strands, then tie it off with a clear elastic band and pin it against the back of the head.

9. Pick up a two-inch section of hair at the center of the back of the head and wrap the strand around your fingers. Twist the fingers counter-clockwise so the hair forms a little knot.

10. Secure the knot in place with hair pins.

11. Next, pick up another two-inch section of hair to the right of the first knot in step 9.

12. Wrap this hair into another knot and pin it in place.

13. Next, pick up a section of hair below the second knot and create a third knot, securing it against the head with hair pins.

14. Then take a section of hair to the left of the first knot and wrap it into another knot, securing it with hair pins.

15. Finally, pick up the last section of hair and create one last knot, securing it with pins.

The Ultimate Mermaid Braid Tutorial for Beginners and Experts Alike

You don’t have to be a mermaid to have a mermaid braid! This is Melissa from MissySue.com and I am here to tell you that the mermaid braid is the newest thing in hair. They’ve been all the rage this season!

Just think of it as the upgraded French braid. This beautiful hairstyle can be dressed up for a night out or worn in a more casual way for an everyday hairstyle.

What is neat about this type of braid is that if you already know the basics of braiding and have mastered the French braid, then it’ll be a piece of cake to do.

The technique behind the braid is exactly the same as French braiding, but when strands are pulled in, they are thinner and smaller so that the hair underneath shows through. This gives it a more intricate and detailed look since the individual pieces are showing up a lot more.

Do not hesitate to give this mermaid braid tutorial a try. I guarantee you will love it and find yourself wearing it more than you think!

3. Divide this into three pieces for the braid.
4. Cross the back strand over the middle.
5. Cross the front strand over the middle.
6. Cross the back strand over the middle, then bring in small section of hair directly below where the braid began.
7. Cross the front strand over the middle and add in a small section of hair directly in front of the braid.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7, pulling in skinny sections until the braid reaches the bottom of the hair.
