  • Dark Cherry Burgundy to Neon Tangerine Orange

    Style by Kheyli Tristen
Hair & Make-up Artist in Pasadena, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a rich, dark cherry burgundy that fades into a neon tangerine orange at the tips. The vibrancy of the colors are definitely my favorite part about this look.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I’d recommend using a red and orange color wash at home to replenish the hair color.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

I think red/burgundy/warm tones are so versatile! A woman with a lighter or a tan complexion can pull this color off, which means all hair types can wear it as well.

As for styling, I like to create loose waves in alternating directions (I use a 1 1/4-inch barrel iron), then comb them out with my fingers to loosen them up. I always use this styling technique when styling ombrés or fashion colors because it really compliments the color work.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this look?

When it comes to maintaining hair color (especially fashion colors like red, blue, purple, etc), there are many factors that go into the upkeep that I send all of my clients home with. Not washing your hair every day (and washing with cold water when you do) and using dry shampoo plays a huge role in color maintenance! Leaving the hair’s natural oils is healthy and washing with cold water prevents the color from washing out so quickly.

I sent this particular client home with an extreme red and orange color wash to replenish the hair color and prevent the hair color from looking washed out and faded. I advise clients to start cleansing with the color wash when they wash their hair (post color appointment) for the first time as opposed to using it when the red/orange is already faded.

If the client doesn’t have a fashion color, using sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner is perfect for color treated hair. Many of the products that do contain sulfate strip out the hair color along with other essential hair oils, which then leads to hair looking and feeling dry. Lastly, try not to use hot tools every single day. Heat really makes the color fade!

  • Deep Burgundy

    Style by Abbie Adams
Hairstylist @ KC Stylist Studio in Pasadena, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a deep burgundy with cooler undertones. It’s not warm like your auburns or traditional reds. My favorite thing about this look is the violet undertones that contribute to its depth. When you use cooler undertones, everything seems deeper and richer.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

In terms of styling, I prefer using wands. A 1-inch wand would do the trick! I usually finish with a light oil for shine and frizz control. A light hold hairspray will help maintain the curl throughout the day.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

There is an even balance of warmth and coolness that makes this shade of red complimentary to any skin tone. Those with fine hair would benefit from this style. The depth of the color creates a fuller look as well as the alternating waves.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this look?

To recreate this look, I would suggest to ask your stylist for a cool red so that you don’t get too bright of a result. The key factor of this look is the depth of the burgundy. In order to recreate it, you need the violet undertones.

Aftercare should consist of sulfate-free shampoo and not washing every day. Red is a very difficult color to maintain and is prone to quick fading, so less washing means less fading. Use dry shampoos on your non-wash days.

  • Chocolate Spiced Burgundy

    Style by Carissa Callaway
Hairstylist @ Divine Salon and Spa in Ripon, CA

How would you describe this cut and color and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a chocolate spice-inspired long bob. My favorite thing about it is the richness of the color.

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

I prepped the hair with Kenra Blowout Spray before drying, then used Kenra 8 Thermal Spray before curling each section. I set and finished the look with Kenra Volume Spray 25.

Which hair types and face shapes could this work well with?

This style would best suit round, oval or square face shapes. Anyone with confidence can rock the color!

What’s a little tip you’d give to someone who’s considering this look or already has it?

This look is ideal for anyone who wants to liven up and enrich their dark locks. The cut and style are perfect for anyone who wants to be able to put their hair up in a bun or ponytail, but still have the ease of styling shorter hair.

  • Burgundy Balayage

Q&A with Style Creator Larissa Anne

Hairstylist @ ReCreations Salon in North Brunswick Township, NJ

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This burgundy color is perfect  for anyone who is willing to change their look. There are many ranges and levels of burgundy that can please anyone’s eye. Usually reds/purples are harder to maintain from roots to ends. I love this trendy look of burgundy balayage because it’s easier for my clients to maintain the color and not as harsh when fading does occur.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I use the Matrix color line and would always recommend Matrix Colorlast sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner for any of my color clients.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

Anyone can pull off this look! That is another reason why this color is great!. I always love this shade of burgundy on olive skin tones, but even the fairest of skin tones can pull this off if looking for a bold look.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

To maintain this color, always use a sulfate-free shampoo and a cool rinse when shampooing. Heat protectants are always a must when styling!

  • Burgundy At Its Finest

Q&A with Style Creator Tanishia Boswell

Owner and Stylist @ Trimmed and Pinned Hair Studio in Eureka, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a plum-inspired burgundy color. My favorite thing about this look is is the dimension the color has!

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I used Pravana color for the base color and Pulpriot hair color for the burgundy.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

I feel like any skin type and hair type can pull off this color!

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

My tips would be to first balayage the hair to get it to at least a level 7 yellow, then apply the root color. I used Pravana level 4 with 10 volume. Then apply the Pulpriot mixture of Fireball, Jam and a little Noir to the previously lightened ends.

To help maintain the color of the hair, it is best to use a salon color-safe shampoo and conditioner. My favorite is the Pravana Vivids shampoo and conditioner. Also, always wash your hair in cold water!

  • Mmmm Merlot!

Q&A with Style Creator Dessiree Gonzalez

Senior Hairstylist @ Radiance Lifestyle Salon & Spa

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a modern take on burgundy hair color. The rich burgundy base is a classic color that to this day is still edgy. I love the electric purple highlights, which not only add dimension, but really make the overall color feel fresh and trendy while still appealing to those wanting a “natural-ish” look.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I would recommend a color protecting shampoo and conditioner. In addition, I’d recommend Overtone Vibrant Red Daily Conditioner which deposits red tones into the hair. A leave-in conditioner is a must for everyone and especially those who color their hair. The brands I recommend are Aveda and Intelligent Nutrients. Both are natural and certified organic.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

Burgundy is a cooler red, meaning it has some violet in it, and the purple highlights are cool toned yet really pop. Skin tones that are already cooler, those with green or blue undertones, and natural brunettes/black haired people look best in this shade. Darker complexions like that of African Americans, Indians, and Latinas pull off this shade well too. Any hair type can pull off this color. I personally think curled hair, whether naturally curly or curled with an iron, looks best because the colors enhance the texture of the hair.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

If you’re looking for a similar color combination, it’s best to leave it to a professional. This client comes in for a root touch up every four to five weeks which helps maintain the rich burgundy base. We recently added highlights, which required pre-lightening to a light blonde, then applying the final purple color to those pieces on clean dry hair. What’s great about it is that my client can keep adding more purple to create more dimension, or if she gets tired of it, we can let them fade out and try a new color. It’s important to invest in a deep conditioner and use it once a week to maintain the hair’s health, softness and elasticity.

  • Melted

Q&A with Style Creator Taylor Hatley

Owner/Stylist @ Hair Unlimited Beauty Saloon in Albemarle, NC

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a subtle burgundy color melt. My favorite thing about it is how easy the fade moves from dark brown to deep burgundy!

Which products would you recommend for this look?

The products I used for the color were all Paul Mitchel. I used the XG line for the color and the Awapuhi Wild Ginger styling products. I also recommend a 1¼-inch barrel curling iron to create these waves. For the finished look, finger comb the curls out and spray with any texture spray to give it a tousled look.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

The client that I did this look on had fair skin, but a natural level 6½ hair. I think if she had a lighter natural level it may have washed her out. Olive skin tones look great in this color too! This color looks great on any length, but looks best on thicker hair.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

My best tip for recreating the color would be to pre-lighten if you want a more vivid outcome and overlap the root color and the burgundy. For the style, always finger comb out your curls and set with a texture spray. And my main tip for maintaining any red is to shampoo with cool water and cut back shampooing to only a few times a week.

  • Chocolate-y Burgundy

Q&A with Style Creator Brandy Barnes

Hairstylist @ Suite 140 Salon in Montgomery, AL

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This burgundy balayage is rich in color and adds a fun pop of color to her dark base.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

Since red/burgundy shades tend to fade quickly, I would suggest using a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner (like Redken Color Magnetics) along with washing in cooler water to help with longevity. A good heat protectant like Kenra’s Hot Spray is a must to protect the color from fading due to heat.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

Burgundy hues always looks great next to cooler skin tones, but can really be worn by anyone.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

Make sure to pick a nice violet red to recreate the burgundy tone, and always use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner to help with longevity of the color.

  • Red Violet Burgundy

Q&A with Style Creator Megan Lorson

Hairstylist @ Bliss Salon & Spa in Rocky Mount, VA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a burgundy red and my favorite part about this look is that it is so dimensional and glossy looking. You get more of that burgundy color in darker lighting and then you get the brightness of the red popping through in natural sunlight. It’s like having two colors!

Which products would you recommend for this look?

To bring through the richness of the color, I would use oils and serums to illuminate the hair and make it look like it has depth. I used Paul Mitchell’s Super Skinny Serum and finished her off with Paul Mitchell’s Awapuhi Shine Spray. Anything to make it extra glossy and shiny!
Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

This color looks great on fairer skin tones, but warmer skin tones can wear this color as well.
What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

Always use a color protecting shampoo and conditioner and limit how much you wash your hair. Washing it too much with make the color fade a lot faster. Use a heat protectant to prevent fading as well.

To maintain this color, you will want to see a stylist about every four to six weeks to get it refreshed. I would just use a gloss to refresh her burgundy hair.

  • Wine & Dine

Q&A with Style Creator Alicia Layne

Hairstylist @ Salon Bordeaux in San Diego, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

My favorite thing about this look is the subtly of the burgundy color and how it blends into her naturally dark hair. It’s a nice, dark wine colored balayage that works great on her.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I recommend Outshine by Redken before you blow dry and a little bit after. It’s the perfect product to defrizz and it adds just the right amount of shine. I also like to put a violet toning conditioner on all my wine-haired babes. I leave it on for about five minutes. I like how the violet brings out the purple tones in the color.  For that I definitely recommend Blonde Angel by Kevin Murphy. It’s the best!

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

Burgundy works well as a balayage on darker hair colors. As a all over root to end burgundy, I think that it looks best on ladies with warmer skin tones. It complements the skin so well it’s like your constantly glowing.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

Try the violet conditioner on dark red hair color and you’ll be surprised at how pretty the results are. Red is famous for fading the fastest, so I think with burgundy it’s best to see your stylist to refresh the color. I sometimes send my clients home with a tinted conditioner I make out of Pravana or Arctic Fox temporary colors if they can’t make it in or are leaving to go out of town.

  • Brilliant Burgundy

Q&A with Style Creator Elian Cribari

Hairstylist @ Ricca Donna Salon in Orange, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

It’s a burgundy A-line bob. I love the easy wearability of the style and all the dimensions in the color.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I recommend a medium hold mousse like Glamour Whip by Goldwell to blow dry, then finish off with a light hold hairspray like Magic Finish by Goldwell so it still has movement. I also love Goldwell’s Diamond Gloss shine spray to really polish off the look.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

This color is very versatile and compliments all skin tones, but it really pops on fair skin.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

Keep up with your root touch ups and try an all over semi-permanent gloss to keep the richness of the color. You’ll also want use a good shampoo and conditioner like Kerasilk Color by Goldwell, as well as a hair serum like Kerasilk Protective Oil by Goldwell to use after towel drying.

  • Transformed

    Q&A with Grace

Hairstylist @ J. Anthony Salon in Whittier, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a subtle, yet still fun burgundy look. My favorite thing about it is when the hair is styled in a soft curl or wave, the dimension in the color really pops beautifully.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

To achieve this look, I balayaged her hair using Wella’s Blondor hair lightener, and then deposited a customized formula using the Keune color line. Keune makes red boosters that you can put into your color that I absolutely love. I used a 1-inch curling iron to create the texture in her hair after blow drying some of Unite’s Boosta Spray into her hair.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

The great thing about this look is how versatile it is. My client has sort of an olive skin tone and it looked amazing with her complexion, but it can really be worn in any skin tone.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

To recreate the style, I would recommend using a 1 or 1 1/2-inch curling iron (I used a Hot Tools Marcel iron). Starting at a half an inch from the scalp, wrap the hair around the iron, leaving the ends out. After curling, run your fingers through the waves to diffuse the look.

As far as maintaining the color, my best advice would be to wash your hair in cooler temperatures and wash every other day or every couple of days to prevent fading. Tressa Watercolors Shampoo is a color depositing shampoo that comes in a variety of different colors that you can use to help the color last as well.

  • The Finest Wine

Q&A with Style Creator Monica Silacci

Hairstylist @ Salon Stilo in Burlingame, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This burgundy look is classy and sultry at the same time, like a glass of fine wine. It’s rich, deep, and when light hits (especially sunlight) it’s suddenly vibrant and enticing. My favorite thing about this look is the way the color screams depth and vibrancy. It’s sexy!
Which products would you recommend for this look?

For all colored hair I would recommend a color-safe shampoo and conditioner. I love Oribe’s Beautiful Color line. It helps to keep your color vibrant and prevent fading. Some clients may also use a red depositing shampoo from time to time, but if the color has faded out too much, it may be time for a glaze! As for styling products on this look, I started with a heat protectant and ended with a light serum and spray, also by Oribe.
Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

I personally love this color and style on just about everyone. It makes girls with light eyes really pop and adds a really exotic look. But my favorite would have to be on my medium to dark skin toned girls with dark features. It adds a sultry and sexy look to them that really catches the eye. Medium to thick hair is best as this is an eye catcher, so if your hair is thinning it’s really going to stand out. The solution is to simply grab some extensions and you’re set!
What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

My tips to you for recreating this color is stick to your RV! (Redviolets) You don’t want to go one way and end up just red or just purple, because this look is a mix of both. Make sure you use a color-safe shampoo and conditioner and come in every 8-12 weeks for an in-the-bowl glaze or root touch up as needed! Style your hair into loose curls and waves with a 1 1/2-inch barrel and run your fingers through after curling. Add your favorite spray and you’re set!

  • Burgundy Ombre

Q&A with Style Creator Elena Filakouris

    Hairstylist in Queens, NY

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a burgundy ombre that gives colorful contrast to your everyday brunette that is sure to make a statement. My favorite thing about this look that it is unexpected. I’m in love with the reddish brown violet undertones that make it sophisticated and super stylish.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I recommend a color protecting shampoo and conditioner for all color treated hair. Get a color depositing shampoo and conditioner for redheads and to use once a week to add pigment and help maintain the vibrancy in your color. I would also recommend UV protective styling balm or thermal protection spray to prevent color from fading in the sun, while also protecting it from the heat and keeping your hair nice and healthy.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

The great thing about this hair color is that any skin tone can pull it off from. If you have acne prone skin or have a lot of red pigmentation, I would stay away from being a red head all together because red hair could enhance the redness in your skin. In that case, you would want to go for more of a neutral/cooler hair color.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

Burgundy can be a hard color to maintain. After your appointment, buy a color depositing shampoo and conditioner for redheads. This will help prevent your color from fading while keeping it vibrant between salon visits.

A great tip to keep any color from from fading is to wash your hair with cool water. Hot water opens up the cuticle and can result in the color bleeding. Using cool water keeps the cuticle sealed while making your hair nice and shiny.

When it’s time to style you hair, you want to add a thermal protection product to keep your hair healthy while heat styling. Rough dry your hair 80%, then go over it with a round brush to smooth out the strands. When you are done, grab a 1 1/4-inch curling iron or wand and, starting at the mid shaft, wrap sections around the iron and hold for a few seconds. When you feel the hair is nice and hot, let the curl fall and grab it and pull down for about three seconds to create a long, loose wave. This technique is great to create those sexy beachy waves. You can finish off with a texture spray that will give you a flexible hold while giving you great texture and volume.

  • Melted to Perfection

Q&A with Style Creator Erin Shimkin

Owner of Artistry by Erin Rachel in Suffern, NY

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a smokey merlot balayage. My favorite thing about this look is that it is relatively low maintenance as far as the color upkeep. It is a great way to play around with some brighter pops of color while still maintaining a natural looking root! I also love styling the hair in loose, messy waves. The style looks better the messier it gets, so you can just spray in some dry shampoo and go!

Which products would you recommend for this look?

To maintain bright colors (any reds, pinks, purples, etc.), I love the Celeb Luxury line of color washes. It is a highly pigmented shampoo that I tell my clients to use once a week in order to prevent fading. For a regular shampoo/conditioner, I swear by the Framesi Color Lover line. It is sulfate-free, which is super important in  maintaining color because sulfates are too harsh and pull the color out quicker. I cannot recommend Olaplex #3 enough for a take home treatment. Olaplex repairs the broken disulfide bonds in the hair, and this is crucial as far as aftercare of the hair goes.

To style this client’s hair, I used Framesi Color Lover Flash Dry Spray as my heat protectant, Davines Blow-Dry Primer at the root for volume, a bit of Moroccan Oil on the ends for shine, and some sprays of Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray for that messy, imperfect wave. I finished the look with Moroccan Oil Strong Hold Hairspray.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

My client in the photo is fair with an olive undertone, but I honestly feel that cool undertones and darker toned skin can also pull off a merlot/burgundy color. It’s very versatile, and I think you can adjust your formula to bring out more cool tones or darken the tone if needed. I like color melts because the root generally stays very close to the natural color which makes a much easier transition to the bright color. The hair in the photo is very coarse and obviously long, but I do think the color can work on finer hair or shorter hair, you would just tweak the placement of the color.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

My best tip to recreate the color is to balayage or hand paint the hair and process it to a level 7/8. Melt a dark brown color from the root to about the tip of the ear. Rinse, Olaplaex, and blow dry. Apply Wella Colortouch 1and1/2 oz. of 6/45 with 1/2oz of 44/65 and a ribbon of /68 and 6 volume processing solution. Process for 20-25 minutes, rinse, Olaplaex again, cut in long interior layers, and blow dry!

To maintain the color I recommend only washing the hair two to three times a week, use a       sulfate-free shampoo and/or a color depositing shampoo once a week. Rinse with cold water, and for added elasticity and shine, use Olaplex #3 once a week. Every three to four months you can go to your colorist for a glaze with formula listed above.

To maintain the style, get a good trim every six to eight weeks, ask for interior layers for movement, and angles starting one inch below the chin. To recreate these waves, I used a 1 1/2-inch barrel curling iron from Hot Tools at 375, and wrapped sections away from the face in front, leaving an inch out on the ends. I alternated sections going toward and away from the face, always leaving the ends out. This is what gives it an undone and not too perfect wave. Run a bit of oil through the ends to smooth it, then give a quick spray of Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray at the root, and voila! Beauty and sexy waves!

  • Mystic Purple

Q&A with Style Creator Jen Matthews

    Master Hairstylist @ Regis Salon

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This look is a beautiful violet with red undertones that is deeper at the roots and dimensional through the ends from her previous blonde balayage. My favorite thing about this look is how fun and different it is while still being very wearable.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I recommend Biolage Color Care shampoo and conditioner to preserve the color as long as possible. To style, I use Moroccan oil to protect from heat damage, smooth the hair, and add shine before I blow dry. I also like to use a 1 1/4-inch curling iron to style, then I finish with a texture spray.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

I believe this color would look great on all skin tones and hair types. This client in particular is very fair with green eyes and the color made her eyes POP! In contrast, I’ve also done this color on someone with more olive undertones and the color richened her skin. Because the color has warmth from the red and coolness from the violet, it will flatter most people.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

Recreating this color really depends on your current hair situation. Always bring in pictures to show your stylist things you like and don’t like so you’re both on the same page before starting. To maintain this look I recommend coming into the salon for regular retouches/refreshers every four to eight weeks. Also try using dry shampoo between washes to extend the life of your color!

  • Burgundy Goddess

Q&A with Style Creator Debbie Benavides

Hairstylist @ Benjamin Beau Salon in Austin, TX

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This burgundy color is a red violety brown inspired by the fall. I love this color because it’s only slightly tinted to where there’s still a brown hint behind it and it’s not too vibrant. It’s a neutral, everyday look that lends itself well to every occasion.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I used Paul Mitchell’s Color Repair shampoo and conditioner, towel dried the hair, then sprayed Color Repair Triple Rescue to protect the color from fading quickly. I used Marula Oil 3 in 1 as a leave-in treatment, and after styling I used Paul Mitchell’s Sea Spray for a beachy look.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

Because this hair color is a darker burgundy, it will go well with every skin tone and especially compliment colored eyes and freckles!

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

My best tip would be to start fresh by cleansing your hair of any buildup with a professional shampoo and conditioner. Clean hair and a healthy scalp helps create the volume and movement desired for this look . As for maintaining that ba-ba-bangin style, using something that is a heat protectant before putting hot tools on your hair is a must! I used a 1-inch Paul Mitchell Neuro Wand and twisted the hair loosely around the wand to create these waves.

  • Bright Waves

Q&A with Style Creator Patricia Safadi

Hairstylist @ WOLF + LAMB Hair Lounge in Knoxville, TN

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

There are beach waves on a slight A-line bob with a burgundy balayage hair color. My favorite thing about this look is how multidimensional this color is and how the color itself makes the hair look textured.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

When styling, I used Mythic Oil for shine and softness and layered IGK’s Car Service Blowout Balm for smoothness. I round brushed and twisted each section into beachy waves using small round brush, then finished look off with IGK’s Beach Club Texture spray for piecey separation and texture at roots.

For color maintenance, I recommend a color-safe shampoo and conditioner like L’Oréal Professional Series Vitamino Color Shampoo and Conditioner, or my favorite IGK’s Smoke and Mirrors Conditioning Cleansing Oil.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

This hair color is extremely versatile and can look great on all skin tones and styles.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

To recreate this color, start out with a level 5-6 brunette and balayage highlights to add dimension, lifting only to level 8. Shadow root with 4.8 Mocha in Diarichesse L’Oréal Professional Color, then glaze with Diarichesse 4.26 Aubergine. The shadow root will give depth while the balayage highlights will add texture and dimension. To maintain this color I recommend glazing every four to six weeks with Diarichesse 4.26 Aubergine on damp hair and only using color-safe products.

  • Burgundy Balayage

Q&A with Style Creator Ziggy Guardado

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a fun and bold transition from natural virgin hair to a vibrant, cool base burgundy. I love the versatility of this look.
Which products would you recommend for this look?

The products I used were, Blondor Powder Bleach by Wella and L’Oréal Hair Color in cherry and deep red. To lighten the hair I used a 30 vol developer and a balayage technique. Then I applied the L’Oréal Hair Color with a 20 vol developer.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

All skin tones can pull off this color and style, however a olive or yellow undertone can compliment the look well.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

Use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners and always wash with cool or lukewarm water. Use a leave-in conditioner, too! It’s also very important to apply a heat protectant before doing any and all heat styling.
