The 23 Hottest Ombre Hair Color Ideas You’ll Ever See

The ombre hair coloring technique is defined as when your hair color gradually blends from one color to another. It comes from the French word that means “shadow” or “shade” and became popular around 2010 and remains one of the hottest hair color trends today. An ombre is a great way to rock a low maintenance look that doesn’t sacrifice style. Go bold, soft, colorful or natural with endless color choices. If you’re wondering what an ombre hair color looks like and if you can pull it off, then scroll down to see pictures of the best ombre hair color ideas for this year!

Black Cherry Red Ombre

Q&A with style creator, Christa Kirby
Hairstylist at Vanity Salon in Plymouth, MI

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a black cherry ombre hair color. I love how the rich, dark brown melts into vibrant red tones.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I used Redken hair color to achieve this look. When coloring reds, I love to use two different tones to show the dimension between cool and warm reds.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

If you love dark hair with some jazz, this would be the color for you! Long hair is the biggest canvas for a beautiful ombré, but with some altering, short hair would be gorgeous with this color combo as well.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

Ombré hair color is a great low maintenance option. This client in particular actually has lighter hair than the chocolate brown color on top, so maintenance would be a routine eight to six weeks root touch-up, along with a red refresh on the ends if desired.

To maintain red hair, I love Pureology’s product line called Reviving Red. It will keep your reds red!

Mermaid Black to Green Ombre

Q&A with style creator, Krista Amira
Freelance Master Stylist in New York, NY

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

I would definitely describe this look by putting it in the realm of “mermaid vibes”. It has a beachy, seafoam-y aura and is great not only in spring and summer, but it brightens up the dreary winter days as well. Winter is when we took this client’s hair from virgin brown to this lovely shade!

My favorite thing about it is how unique it is. I try to use several similar shades on all my fashion color balayage clients to create dimension. It makes the color fade more fun!

Which products would you recommend for this look?

For this look I used Arctic Fox hair color in Iris green and Neverland. I also added a touch of Aquamarine to Arctic Fox Sterling. For her style, I rough dried the hair and spritzed it Davines Salt Spray for a beachy finish.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

I would stick with fair skin tones or skin tones that have a bit of underlying pink. The green and the warmth balance each other out beautifully. I also suggest this look for finer textured hair that has a bit of a beachy wave already and is between a level 4-7 naturally.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

I always implore my clients to purchase the color I used on them and mix it with a nice leave-in conditioner. That way when they wash, it puts back a touch of the color that faded from the wash. I also highly recommend Overtone Conditioner for color upkeep. The style is easy to maintain (depending on the hair type) and can be air dried and finished with a beach spray to achieve the look.

Multi-dimensional Soft Brown

Q&A with style creator, Francesca Kane
Master Hair Stylist @ The Colour Parlor in Wildomar, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a multi-dimensional soft brown ombre hair. My favorite thing about it is the soft gradual lightening of the overall look.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

Colorwise, I recommend a medium natural brown by Paul Mitchell XG for roots and mid shaft, Lightener by Paul Mitchell and a Paul Mitchell Shines for toner. I used Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum cocktailed with their Neon Line Sugar Cream while wet. I blow dried with a large round brush and curled with a 1 1/4-inch curling iron.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

I would say anyone in the olive and tan skin tones and any hair type can achieve and pull off this look with the right styling products.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

Stay within three level shades from the base color. To maintain, I would say to use a color safe/treated shampoo and conditioner and to come in every so often for a refresh toner for shine and fading.

Blue Ombre With Bangs

Q&A with style creator, Kristina Dunn
Hairstylist @ Raven & Sage Collective in San Diego, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a blue ombré. My favorite thing about this look is that it you still get the depth of her natural color at the roots, but that super fun pop of color on the ends.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

Before blow drying I recommend using Kevin Murphy’s Staying.Alive. It is a leave-in spray that protects and smooths the hair. After drying, use Design.Me’s product called Puff.Me for volume and to give texture to the waves.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

I think any skin tone or hair texture could pull off this look. This look is great for straight hair and would look equally as awesome on curly hair.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

Fashion colors always need to be washed with cold water and washed as minimally as possible if you’re wanting the color to last. A dry shampoo like Sebastian’s Dry Clean Only is great for in between washes.

I used a 1.25-inch curling wand to create these curls, then ran my fingers through the hair to loosen them up.

Balayage Ombre

Q&A with style creator, Danielle Badger
Hair Designer @ This or Die Salon in Los Angeles, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a natural, sexy, care-free ombre. I love this look because it is so easy to achieve. When you wear it sleek and straight it’s sassy and sophisticated. If you curl it, it becomes beach-like with more of a seductive look.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I only use a product line called Surface. It is a high performance, salon-exclusive haircare and skincare line that respects personal health and the earth. For this look, I round brushed the hair and used the Awakening Thickening Creme. Then I curled the hair with a 1-inch curling iron and spraying it with Swirl. Surface is all about having a quality and natural performance. It actually achieves its goals which is why I love using it! It’s easy and it actually improves the hair.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

The great part about a balayage / ombre appearance is that it is a natural look. It’s all about a sun kissed style that gives it the natural beach look. It’s about customizing it for the client. Many different tones can work with this technique, from a natural look to a more of an experimental and edgy fashion.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

Always learn from other stylists because it is an art and it’s always evolving. Balayage is pricey because if it is something that is done right, it will last a long time and the look will fade out naturally.

Intense Black to Pink Ombre

Q&A with style creator, Yvette Contreras
Hairstylist @ The Hair Studio by KC in San Jacinto, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is an intense pink ombre hair color. I wanted a layout that gave the illusion that my client’s hair was fuller. My favorite part of the look is the contrast of her natural base up against the pink.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I lightened her hair with Blondor powdered lightener with 30 vol. developer and added drops of My Amazing Repair And Shine. For the pink, I used Rusk Pink with Demi developer and added My Amazing Repair and Shine drops again.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

My client actually has a natural tanned skin tone, and I think the colors together complimented her a lot. That being said, this look is actually very diverse. If it was on someone with a lighter complexion, I would probably bring the ombré up higher up around the face.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

To keep this look vibrant, use cooler water when washing and professional hair care products! Your touch ups would be every three to five weeks.

Red Fire Ombre

Q&A with style creator, Leila Vance
Hairstylist @ Kokopelli Salon and Spa in Vancouver, British Columbia

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a “fiery ombre hair” color with the vibrant bright red being my favorite aspect.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

The products I used to obtain the color were a mix of Schwarzkopf colors, and for the styling I used Unite. More specifically, I used a combination of Unite’s Laser Straight Elixir, Smoothing Cream, and Argon Oil. After styling with a large barrel wand, I finished it off with flossing spray and hairspray.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

Luckily, red is one of those colors that goes with every skin tone and hair type, you just have to fine the right shade. For this look specifically, it works best with medium (past the shoulders) hair or long hair because of how many colors were used.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

For recreating the color, I started by lightening the mids to ends then melted three shades of red, starting with a deep dark red at the root and melting down into the brightest lighter red, then going in and adding the gold into the bottoms. Using a color-safe shampoo and conditioner combo, heat protecting products, and lower heat settings will all aid in maintaining the bright colors. Using cooler water when washing will help the colors not bleed into each other.

Purple & Green Ombre Peacock

Q&A with style creator, Ania Wazny
Hairstylist in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This ombre is bold and beautiful like a peacock tail. Gorgeous!

Which products would you recommend for this look?

For stylists trying to achieve this look, I would recommend using Schwarzkopf BlondeMe lightener, and for the fashion colors I recommend Pravana. I also use Brazilian Bond Builder in all my formulas to maintain the integrity of the hair.

I use Schwarzkopf Split End Mender on all my clients to create a smooth look and for volume I love Sebastian Professional Volupt Spray. It never fails!

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

I feel that anyone can pull this look off. It has more to do with personality! You have to be an expressive person to carry this look with confidence. You also have to be willing to maintain this color every four weeks to keep it looking fresh.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

Aside from using a professional sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner, the most important thing to do is not to wash your hair too often and when you do, use cold water. As unpleasant as it sounds, the cold water keeps the hair cuticle sealed and prevents the color from washing out and fading. I find my clients who follow this advice have the most success with maintaining the color.

Short and Silver Ombre

Q&A with style creator, Carla Alejandra
Hairstylist @ bubble pop electric salon in San Francisco, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a chrome melt! The color was done in two sessions because, ultimately, I love happy and healthy hair. I absolutely love how I was able to kick out the warmth while maintaining the level of lightness on the ends, especially considering how dark of a level his hair was to begin with.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I used Olaplex in the lightener, which is a must for me. I always strive to keep the hair’s integrity as healthy as possible. I toned the hair with a combination of Redkin shades EQ 09B/09P and Goldwell 5A.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

I personally feel that anyone can pull off silver hair. Just like a lot of the wild fashion colors you see out there, it comes with an attitude! If you have the confidence to rock it and a will to maintain it, go for it!!

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

Similar to my bleach and tone clients, if you want to maintain the look, coming back every four to five weeks is what I suggest. Always use a bond builder to protect the hair and keep up with healthy trims. One of the beauties of the ombré and balayage melts is that they grow out nicely if you can’t come in to touch it up. I suggest home care like Olaplex No. 3 with a custom Pravana mix added into it or Overtone (a color creme conditioner) used weekly to maintain the silver.

Soft Copper Ombre

Style by Kelly Nord
Hairstylist @ Salon Trendé in Waconia, MN

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a soft red/copper ombré with loose curls and a shoulder length cut. My favorite thing about this style is that it is perfect for someone wanting spice things up a bit, but still remain subtle. It is a great way to add warm tones and a fun style to their look!

Which products would you recommend for this look?

This color was created using the Lanza Healing Color line. I recommend the Lanza Healing Color Care System to maintain the color. The system includes shampoo, conditioner, Color Guard, and Color Illuminator.

For styling, I used Icon Welder thermal protectant by EVO, Moroccan Oil Dry Texture Spray, and finished with Lanza Keratin Healing Oil Finishing Spray.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

Fair or lighter skin tones look best in a lighter red color such as this copper/red.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this look?

Do not wash your hair with hot water! Hot water can lead to colors fading much faster, especially with reds.

When asking your stylist about this color, take into consideration that it will require monthly upkeep to maintain the vibrancy and shine and prevent it from dulling.

When asking about style, ask your stylist about which iron to use to create different curls. Also ask about products to help maintain your style and protect it from everyday heat styling. It’s important to use correct products to help maintain and care for your beautiful hair!

Red Ombre Melt

Style by Tara Nichole
Redken Colorist & Makeup Artist @ Lavish Salon in Rancho Cucamonga, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a red ombré or a red color melt. My favorite thing about this look is the high contrast and the intensity of the brighter red!

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I am a Redken certified colorist, so of course I would recommend the Color Fusion line. I used 3rv and 4rr at the top, melting in 6rv and 6rr with R hi fusion for an extra kick!

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

This color would gorgeous on many skin tones, but mostly skin tones with warm undertones. I am a firm believer that anyone can rock any color that makes them feel good. It’s all about how YOU feel.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this look?

Definitely make sure you have enough of your formula mixed so you won’t have to re-mix and risk the outcome being consistent. I also added Redken’s PH Bonder to ensure the longevity of the look.

Always protect and maintain your color by using cool water, a color-safe shampoo and conditioner, and a heat protectant to help with fading.

Long Brown to Blonde Ombre

Q&A with style creator, Victoria Ashton
Hair & makeup artist in Los Angeles, CA

How would you describe this cut and color and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a classic ombre hair color design. She has very long and thick hair and likes to keep the back of her hair clean and full. The front was cut to frame her face and enhance the side part she prefers, and the overall look was thinned it out a bit using an internal texturizing technique. My favorite part of this look is the overall fluidity of the color on her long hair. Ombré creates a soft blend of color that is so luxurious.

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

I love Redken 25 Benefits for protection and Pillow Proof to help speed up blow drying on thick and long hair. I also use Olivia Garden hair brushes on all my clients because they give such a nice smooth finish.

What type of person would this look work well with?

Ombré looks good on most hair types, but the process will differ for each hair type. This overall haircut/design fits all face shapes and is fitting for women who like low maintenance color care and can’t make it to regular haircut appointments often. The client’s skin tone would determine the hue of ombré you choose meaning warm or ash colors.

What’s a tip you’d give to someone who’s considering this look or already has it?

It is so important to keep up with regular conditioning treatments before and after lightening hair so that it stays healthy. Always use some type of leave-in treatment and heat protectant before styling so as to not damage lightened hair areas, and make sure that if you’re not going to keep lightening the hair, at least keep up with toning appointments to maintain the hue.

Subtle Ombre

Q&A with style creator, Lacey Valdez
Master Stylist @ AVE Salon in Ogden, UT

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a beautiful sombre look, which is basically a more subtle version of an ombre hair color.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I used Schwarzkopf lightener/olaplex. I used a back combing technique with babylights around her face. She has been coloring her hair dark for so many years and I felt like I needed the heat from the foils to help lighten her.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

The sombre is great on all skin tones. Because you have your natural color at your root, it allows you to play around with the colors on your ends.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

This is a long lasting color and only needs to be maintained if a darker root or lighter/darker end is desired.

Natural Ash Brown Ombre

Q&A with style creator, Rachel Willis
Owner of Rachel Willis Hairdressing in Perth, Canning Vale, Australia

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This ombre look is a super natural blend with highlights around the faceline to mimic what the sun would naturally enhance. I love this look because straight or curly, it is still very blended, but not too harsh or bright for my guest’s tone.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

For maintenance at home, I recommend Fanola No Yellow Shampoo, Olaplex #3, and a soft blowdrying lotion like Redken Satinwear.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

People with light peachy pink tones can go as ashy as this. I used my guest’s natural ash tone for the base because it was too soft and beautiful to cover up.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

Maintenance for this look i very simple. You need to come into the salon for a toner and faceline foils every four weeks, then every 12 weeks I would pull all the balayage up. As long as this look is maintained at home, not much re-lightening will need to happen.

Heavy Brown to Red Ombre

Q&A with style creator, Joni Shepherd
Owner of J S Hairdressing in Riverstone Terraces, Upper Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This a dramatic, heavy red ombre look. What I love most about it is that because the roots are a natural tone, the upkeep is much easier, especially for those who don’t want to commit to being red from the roots to ends. It’s a soft transition into the dramatic red at the bottom.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

To achieve these waves, a smoothing cream, heat protector and serum are perfect, with a touch of hairspray to hold.

To maintain the vibrancy of the red, use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner, as well as a once-a-week treatment that has UV filters to help shield the color from fading with optimum shine.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

I personally think most skin types can wear this! The base color is nice and natural, so this gives the clients that want to try a red ombre a chance to have funky hair!

Most hair types will look amazing with this, just keep in mind that if your hair is shorter and you have red pigment in your skin, this may not be ideal as the red will be closer to the skin.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

When recreating this style, make sure the hair is fully dried and you have used a heat protector. Use a waving wand, curling tongs or straightener to curl the hair, then finish with a serum for ultimate shine and a touch of hairspray to hold.

Purple Ombre Bob

Q&A with style creator, Davis Wong
Celebrity Hair Artist @ Scissors Palace in West Malaysia

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

Ombre has definitely made an impact in the beauty and fashion industry. It is an easy, low maintenance look for my clients. My favorite part of ombre is that the color selection for the ombre varies, so customizing the color is the fun part. Clients always enjoy the variation that gives a prompt personality to their hair!

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I’ve always enjoyed using Philip Martin’s as a core color chart for my clients to select. Its organic and safe for my clients’ hair.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

Ombre kicked off earlier on and trend as for long hair, but now any length of healthy hair can rock it. There are no specific rules to creating a certain look for my clients. It all depends on the individual and the acceptance toward a high fashion color like ombre.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

My best tips on maintaining an ombre color depend on if it’s a warm series or cold series color. If it’s a warm series, the color last longer as there are more red tones in the shade. For cold series, I recommend a color shampoo to lock in the blue shade.

Melted Dark to Light Ombre

Q&A with style creator, Juana Reyna
Senior Stylist @ Jay Rua Glam Hair Salon in Las Vegas, NV

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This look is a melted blend ombré style. My favorite thing about it is the seamless blend going from her dark base to the lightest shade on her ends.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I would commend these following products to keep up with this gorgeous transformation:

*Repair Shampoo and Conditioner by Moroccan Oil Products – Now that her hair is lightened, it is very important that we repair her hair and mend the ends with moisture and reconstructive keratin to prevent any breakage.

*Fanola No Yellow Shampoo – Used weekly, this will maintain her bright blonde and keeep her brass-free.

*Moroccan Oil – This magnificent oil is a treatment all on its own. I strongly recommend using it as a heat protectant as well as a daily leave-in. It won’t leave hair oily or heavy, which is my favorite thing about it. It dries nice and soft and additional products can be used after applying the oil.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

Anyone with any hair length or texture can pull this look off. This shade of blonde might not work for everyone, but the blend definitely will. The best skin tones to pull off this exact color would be medium to light.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

This was an ombre hair color correction, so I had to cover it all with a darker level 5N base to tone out unwanted tones. After she was blow dried and sectioned off, I proceeded with the ombré technique to re-lift her and give her a high blend. When it came time to tone, I used a level 7 beige blonde toner to give her that creamy, even blonde tone. To keep the color and integrity of the hair, use the recommended products and come back to the salon in a month or two to re-tone.

Straight Brown to Blonde Ombre

Q&A with Style Creator Mish Jolie

Hairstylist @ Envee Salon and Spa in Southington, CT

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a champagne caramel ombre hair color with lighter pieces that are all hand painted. She likes her upkeep minimal, so it’s painted to keep her natural color at the roots. My favorite thing about it is how naturally and beautifully it blends into her natural color.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I recommend a smoothing styling cream like Aveda’s Smooth Infusion Nourishing Styling Cream. I also added Aveda Light Elements Smoothing Fluid to the ends of this client to give it shine and even more control.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

I think this color is pretty universal for all skin types. Darker tones can pull it off because it’s not too light and still has a lot of depth to it. Lighter tones will only be complimented due to the warm hues. This style is best on naturally straight to wavy hair.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

The maintenance is very minimal. I would suggest balayage every eight to ten weeks with a color gloss to keep the color and shine. Recreating this look is an easy blow out and flat iron.

Metallic Lilac and Lavender Ombre

Q&A with Style Creator Lestat Saenz

Hairstylist @ Escape Salon in Claremont, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

The cool toned color palette that I drew inspiration from was amethyst stones. The earth provides a natural array color that is transferable into hair and fashion tones. Bright yet subdued, this look is easy for pushing trends, but is soft enough to not overpower her lifestyle. My favorite part of this style is the soft blend from her natural color to the lilac metallic.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

From bleach to tone is all thanks to Schwarzkopf. To achieve her lavender locks, I used a custom formula of 9.5-29, inch of extract 0-11, and 9-18 with ten volume. Then in subsections, I toned out my balayage with 8-11 10 volumes again.

For her styling, I used a combination of my two favorite styling products from Living Proof — Prime Styling to prep and Dry Volume Blast for extra volume.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

A majority of my clientele are of Latino origin  so I commonly work with olive to warm tones. When working with cool/ash tones, I tend to stick with blue – violet bases to counteract yellow undertones. I believe hair texture/types should not discourage clients from trying something vivid and exciting. It’s important to emphasizes your client’s positive features, and color is my favorite way of achieving that.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

I create a custom conditioner for all of my clients who leave with vivid, fashion-toned colors. I will use a conditioning treatment that’s white and mix in the Joico Intensity colors that match best to their color. The color conditioner is included in my price of the service as well to maintain their style and keep them happy after their first wash.

Pinky Ombre Hair

Q&A with Style Creator Andrea Albanese

Hairstylist @ Regis Salon in Sammamish, WA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

I’ve been a huge fan of the ombre and balayage techniques since they came out because of how low maintenance they are! I actually have the same style on my hair as well. My roots are my natural color and my ends are lightened to a light pale blonde. I like playing around with different colors on the ends and switching to a new color after the first one fades out!

Ombre is very versatile. As long as you use a semi-permanent color on the previously lightened ends, it will fade back to the pre-lightened blonde and leave you with a blank canvas.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

For the color, I lightened my client’s hair to a level 9 using Matrix Light Master, then toned her hair with the Silver Mink formula from Matrix (1 oz 10A, 3/4 oz 10P) to cool down any warmth and give it a silvery look as it fades. I used a mix of Pravana Pink and Magenta on top of that.

For styling, I used a Hot Tools 1 1/2-inch barrel curling iron to curl everything. I do the curls in different directions. Since she has long, thick hair that doesn’t always want to hold curl, I let the curls cool down and set before using a bit of styling oil to gently finger brush through them to soften the look.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

I believe that a lot of different skin tones can get away with the color, especially if you have your natural color at the top. You just want to be careful of going too vibrant with the pink if you have a lot of pink undertones in your skin. Try a more muted rose color if you have pink undertones in your skin. The style is also very versatile, you would just want to adjust the application depending on the length of hair. This style can be done with almost any color though, so get creative!

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

If you want to do something like this to your hair, I always recommend seeing a professional. Find photos of styles that you do like and even some that you don’t. The more photo examples you provide, the clearer the picture your stylist will have of what you want. This balayage/ombre technique is low maintenance, but the know that these fun, bright colors can fade fast. They are a semi permanent dye. Using color-safe shampoos and conditioners, washing your hair in cool water, and washing it as little as possible will help keep the color lasting longer!

You can also use a colored shampoo or conditioner, like Viral or oVertone to keep the color bright. Also, stay out of the pool! The chlorine will pull the color right out. But remember that the fun part is that once the color on the ends is gone, you can try another one!

Opal Pastel Ombre

Q&A with Style Creator Autumn Miller

Hairstylist @ Two22 Salon in Chico, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is an opal pastel ombre hair color! I love the different dimensions and tones of color in her long hair.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I used Joico Intensity Direct Dye Colors in their pastel line and added Olaplex to all formulas.
Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

I think just about anyone can look amazing with this color, but I would not recommend it for someone with reddish-pink skin hues because there are lots of pink-light colors that could enhance that.
What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

If you plan on getting a color done like this pastel opal, I would recommend alternating using a sulfate-free shampoo and a dry shampoo. Using Olaplex in between appointments will help your hair tremendously to keep it shiny and healthy as well! These types of colors really last longer if you use cold water to rinse. Turn down the temp on your hot tools to keep the color vibrant!

Short Blonde Ombre Hair

Q&A with Style Creator Alexandra Lishchinskaya

Owner and Hairstylist @ Change in Kiev Ukraine

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is very fresh, stylish, natural, and free sombre look. I adore the highlights and how they reflect light.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I use Davines Mask hair Bleaching Powder for making babylights and highlights, color gradient and blonde. I like to tone the hair with Davines A New Color, Mask With Vibrachrom and Finest Pigments.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

All skin/color types can wear a sombe or ombré. The most important thing is to detect the right color/hair/skin type of your client.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?

For blondes, the best product is the silver conditioner Davines “Alchemic”. Also with this type of blonde coloring, the hair should be toned once a month.

Ombre for Dark Hair

Q&A with Style Creator Meghanne Miller

Hairstylist @ Pure Bliss Hair and Nail Salon in Louisville, KY

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a beachy, long and textured angled bob hairstyle that is colored with a soft and subtle caramel ombré technique. It will grow out nicely and it is a great style and color for all seasons.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

To achieve this look I would first apply Redken’s Aerate volumizing cream/mousse to damp hair for fuller hair.
