If you love dark hair with some jazz, this would be the color for you! Long hair is the biggest canvas for a beautiful ombré, but with some altering, short hair would be gorgeous with this color combo as well.
What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?
Ombré hair color is a great low maintenance option. This client in particular actually has lighter hair than the chocolate brown color on top, so maintenance would be a routine eight to six weeks root touch-up, along with a red refresh on the ends if desired.

I would definitely describe this look by putting it in the realm of “mermaid vibes”. It has a beachy, seafoam-y aura and is great not only in spring and summer, but it brightens up the dreary winter days as well. Winter is when we took this client’s hair from virgin brown to this lovely shade!

For this look I used Arctic Fox hair color in Iris green and Neverland. I also added a touch of Aquamarine to Arctic Fox Sterling. For her style, I rough dried the hair and spritzed it Davines Salt Spray for a beachy finish.

I would stick with fair skin tones or skin tones that have a bit of underlying pink. The green and the warmth balance each other out beautifully. I also suggest this look for finer textured hair that has a bit of a beachy wave already and is between a level 4-7 naturally.
What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?
I always implore my clients to purchase the color I used on them and mix it with a nice leave-in conditioner. That way when they wash, it puts back a touch of the color that faded from the wash. I also highly recommend Overtone Conditioner for color upkeep. The style is easy to maintain (depending on the hair type) and can be air dried and finished with a beach spray to achieve the look.

Colorwise, I recommend a medium natural brown by Paul Mitchell XG for roots and mid shaft, Lightener by Paul Mitchell and a Paul Mitchell Shines for toner. I used Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum cocktailed with their Neon Line Sugar Cream while wet. I blow dried with a large round brush and curled with a 1 1/4-inch curling iron.

I think any skin tone or hair texture could pull off this look. This look is great for straight hair and would look equally as awesome on curly hair.

Fashion colors always need to be washed with cold water and washed as minimally as possible if you’re wanting the color to last. A dry shampoo like Sebastian’s Dry Clean Only is great for in between washes.
I used a 1.25-inch curling wand to create these curls, then ran my fingers through the hair to loosen them up.

This is a natural, sexy, care-free ombre. I love this look because it is so easy to achieve. When you wear it sleek and straight it’s sassy and sophisticated. If you curl it, it becomes beach-like with more of a seductive look.

For this look, I round brushed the hair and used the Awakening Thickening Creme. Then I curled the hair with a 1-inch curling iron and spraying it with Swirl. The great part about a balayage / ombre appearance is that it is a natural look. It’s all about a sun kissed style that gives it the natural beach look. It’s about customizing it for the client. Always learn from other stylists because it is an art and it’s always evolving. Balayage is pricey because if it is something that is done right, it will last a long time and the look will fade out naturally.

This is a “fiery ombre hair” color with the vibrant bright red being my favorite aspect.
Which products would you recommend for this look?
The products I used to obtain the color were a mix of Schwarzkopf colors, and for the styling I used Unite. More specifically, I used a combination of Unite’s Laser Straight Elixir, Smoothing Cream, and Argon Oil. After styling with a large barrel wand, I finished it off with flossing spray and hairspray.

Luckily, red is one of those colors that goes with every skin tone and hair type, you just have to fine the right shade. For this look specifically, it works best with medium (past the shoulders) hair or long hair because of how many colors were used.
What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?
For recreating the color, I started by lightening the mids to ends then melted three shades of red, starting with a deep dark red at the root and melting down into the brightest lighter red, then going in and adding the gold into the bottoms. Using a color-safe shampoo and conditioner combo, heat protecting products, and lower heat settings will all aid in maintaining the bright colors. Using cooler water when washing will help the colors not bleed into each other.

I feel that anyone can pull this look off. It has more to do with personality! You have to be an expressive person to carry this look with confidence. You also have to be willing to maintain this color every four weeks to keep it looking fresh.

Aside from using a professional sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner, the most important thing to do is not to wash your hair too often and when you do, use cold water. As unpleasant as it sounds, the cold water keeps the hair cuticle sealed and prevents the color from washing out and fading. I find my clients who follow this advice have the most success with maintaining the color.
Short and Silver Ombre

This is a chrome melt! The color was done in two sessions because, ultimately, I love happy and healthy hair. I absolutely love how I was able to kick out the warmth while maintaining the level of lightness on the ends, especially considering how dark of a level his hair was to begin with.

I used Olaplex in the lightener, which is a must for me. I always strive to keep the hair’s integrity as healthy as possible. I toned the hair with a combination of Redkin shades EQ 09B/09P and Goldwell 5A.

Similar to my bleach and tone clients, if you want to maintain the look, coming back every four to five weeks is what I suggest. Always use a bond builder to protect the hair and keep up with healthy trims. One of the beauties of the ombré and balayage melts is that they grow out nicely if you can’t come in to touch it up. I suggest home care like Olaplex No. 3 with a custom Pravana mix added into it or Overtone (a color creme conditioner) used weekly to maintain the silver.

*Fanola No Yellow Shampoo – Used weekly, this will maintain her bright blonde and keeep her brass-free.
*Moroccan Oil – This magnificent oil is a treatment all on its own. I strongly recommend using it as a heat protectant as well as a daily leave-in. It won’t leave hair oily or heavy, which is my favorite thing about it. It dries nice and soft and additional products can be used after applying the oil.

Anyone with any hair length or texture can pull this look off. This shade of blonde might not work for everyone, but the blend definitely will. The best skin tones to pull off this exact color would be medium to light.
What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?
This was an ombre hair color correction, so I had to cover it all with a darker level 5N base to tone out unwanted tones. After she was blow dried and sectioned off, I proceeded with the ombré technique to re-lift her and give her a high blend. When it came time to tone, I used a level 7 beige blonde toner to give her that creamy, even blonde tone. To keep the color and integrity of the hair, use the recommended products and come back to the salon in a month or two to re-tone.

This is a champagne caramel ombre hair color with lighter pieces that are all hand painted. She likes her upkeep minimal, so it’s painted to keep her natural color at the roots. My favorite thing about it is how naturally and beautifully it blends into her natural color.

I recommend a smoothing styling cream like Aveda’s Smooth Infusion Nourishing Styling Cream. I also added Aveda Light Elements Smoothing Fluid to the ends of this client to give it shine and even more control.

I think this color is pretty universal for all skin types. Darker tones can pull it off because it’s not too light and still has a lot of depth to it. Lighter tones will only be complimented due to the warm hues. This style is best on naturally straight to wavy hair.

The maintenance is very minimal. I would suggest balayage every eight to ten weeks with a color gloss to keep the color and shine. Recreating this look is an easy blow out and flat iron.

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?
The cool toned color palette that I drew inspiration from was amethyst stones. The earth provides a natural array color that is transferable into hair and fashion tones. Bright yet subdued, this look is easy for pushing trends, but is soft enough to not overpower her lifestyle. My favorite part of this style is the soft blend from her natural color to the lilac metallic.
Which products would you recommend for this look?
From bleach to tone is all thanks to Schwarzkopf. To achieve her lavender locks, I used a custom formula of 9.5-29, inch of extract 0-11, and 9-18 with ten volume. Then in subsections, I toned out my balayage with 8-11 10 volumes again.
For her styling, I used a combination of my two favorite styling products from Living Proof — Prime Styling to prep and Dry Volume Blast for extra volume.

A majority of my clientele are of Latino origin so I commonly work with olive to warm tones. When working with cool/ash tones, I tend to stick with blue – violet bases to counteract yellow undertones. I believe hair texture/types should not discourage clients from trying something vivid and exciting. It’s important to emphasizes your client’s positive features, and color is my favorite way of achieving that.
What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?
I create a custom conditioner for all of my clients who leave with vivid, fashion-toned colors. I will use a conditioning treatment that’s white and mix in the Joico Intensity colors that match best to their color. The color conditioner is included in my price of the service as well to maintain their style and keep them happy after their first wash.
Pinky Ombre Hair

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?
I’ve been a huge fan of the ombre and balayage techniques since they came out because of how low maintenance they are! I actually have the same style on my hair as well. My roots are my natural color and my ends are lightened to a light pale blonde. I like playing around with different colors on the ends and switching to a new color after the first one fades out!
Ombre is very versatile. As long as you use a semi-permanent color on the previously lightened ends, it will fade back to the pre-lightened blonde and leave you with a blank canvas.
Which products would you recommend for this look?
For the color, I lightened my client’s hair to a level 9 using Matrix Light Master, then toned her hair with the Silver Mink formula from Matrix (1 oz 10A, 3/4 oz 10P) to cool down any warmth and give it a silvery look as it fades. I used a mix of Pravana Pink and Magenta on top of that.
For styling, I used a Hot Tools 1 1/2-inch barrel curling iron to curl everything. I do the curls in different directions. Since she has long, thick hair that doesn’t always want to hold curl, I let the curls cool down and set before using a bit of styling oil to gently finger brush through them to soften the look.

I believe that a lot of different skin tones can get away with the color, especially if you have your natural color at the top. You just want to be careful of going too vibrant with the pink if you have a lot of pink undertones in your skin. Try a more muted rose color if you have pink undertones in your skin. The style is also very versatile, you would just want to adjust the application depending on the length of hair. This style can be done with almost any color though, so get creative!
What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?
If you want to do something like this to your hair, I always recommend seeing a professional. Find photos of styles that you do like and even some that you don’t. The more photo examples you provide, the clearer the picture your stylist will have of what you want. You can also use a colored shampoo or conditioner, like Viral or oVertone to keep the color bright. Also, stay out of the pool! The chlorine will pull the color right out. But remember that the fun part is that once the color on the ends is gone, you can try another one!

This is an opal pastel ombre hair color! I love the different dimensions and tones of color in her long hair.
Which products would you recommend for this look?
I used Joico Intensity Direct Dye Colors in their pastel line and added Olaplex to all formulas.
Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?
I think just about anyone can look amazing with this color, but I would not recommend it for someone with reddish-pink skin hues because there are lots of pink-light colors that could enhance that.
What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?
If you plan on getting a color done like this pastel opal, I would recommend alternating using a sulfate-free shampoo and a dry shampoo. Using Olaplex in between appointments will help your hair tremendously to keep it shiny and healthy as well! These types of colors really last longer if you use cold water to rinse. Turn down the temp on your hot tools to keep the color vibrant!

I use Davines Mask hair Bleaching Powder for making babylights and highlights, color gradient and blonde. I like to tone the hair with Davines A New Color, Mask With Vibrachrom and Finest Pigments.

All skin/color types can wear a sombe or ombré. The most important thing is to detect the right color/hair/skin type of your client.
What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?
For blondes, the best product is the silver conditioner Davines “Alchemic”. Also with this type of blonde coloring, the hair should be toned once a month.

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?
This is a beachy, long and textured angled bob hairstyle that is colored with a soft and subtle caramel ombré technique. It will grow out nicely and it is a great style and color for all seasons.
Which products would you recommend for this look?
To achieve this look I would first apply Redken’s Aerate volumizing cream/mousse to damp hair for fuller hair. After blow drying your hair, spray a light mist of Redken’s Hot Sets thermal protectant to your hair that you will be curling away from your face. Once you are finished, break your curls up with Redken’s Mess Around and finish off with Redken’s Quick Dry.
Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?
The hair color on this client is best for medium to dark skin tones, but can be customized for lighter skin tones as well. This style will look great with all hair types.
What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this color/style?
There are so many variations of an sombre / ombre hair color. Make sure you bring pictures of your expectations to your stylist. An ombré is perfect for someone who wants low maintenance hair.
