When the Too FacedI Want Kandee collection showed up at my apartment in a giant lollipop box, I knew I was in for a treat. Too Faced is a long time favorite brand of mine, and Kandee happens to be my mom’s favorite YouTuber. She was pretty excited when I met her (and for the record, she’s a doll). Each product in the collection is sweetly fragranced with a candy scent — or in the brightening powder’s case, bananas, although it didn’t really smell like that to me. I have mixed feelings about gimmicky, scented makeup — and by “mixed feelings” I mean that on paper, I’m like “no thanks, I’m good” but then I put it all over my face and feel like a kid in a — wait for it — Kandee store. Side note: I love their chocolate and peachy products, so I don’t know why I’m still pretending I don’t like the gimmicky scents. These products have that vanilla/cotton candy/cake batterish scent, nothing too offensive, and save for the liquid lipsticks with a slight saccharine taste, the scent doesn’t linger. And in all fairness to Kandee, I would be deeply disappointed if she didn’t go the distance with a name suited so greatly for such a theme. And you know that I LOVE a theme.
In short, I am into it, all of it (well, almost all of it). I’m not that into the smell of the “Banana Pudding” face powder, but as a brightening / setting powder that helps hide darkness under your eyes and has mild color correcting bits within, it’s very nice. The liquid lipsticks are gorgeous, and not surprisingly I have been carrying “Freshly Baked” Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick in my purse — a place only reserved for the ones in heavy rotation. The “Candy Glow” luminizer goes on smoothly and has a pearly sheen that blends well and feels light on the skin. The “Candy Eyes” eyeshadow palette has a great mix of matte and shimmery neutrals with a few pops of color, and going with the candy theme, I went straight for the pinks with a highlighted halo center. They have great color payoff and staying power, and the texture is buttery smooth. The only product I wasn’t nuts about was the “Licorice Liner” liquid eyeliner. When I opened it, I thought the applicator had broken off, but it’s a stiff, flat edge that’s supposed to make application easier. It might work for some people, but I’ll stick to my brush applicators.
All in all, I had a lot of fun playing around with Kandee’s collection, and I love that she clearly had fun with it, too. Makeup should be fun, don’t you think?!
p.s. This collection is available at UltaandToo Faced.
