Though Snow White has always been my girl, the move Sleeping Beauty was my original love. I watched the movie on VHS so often, it started to warp. My mom told me it needed to be cleaned, and of course since I was a little girl, I didn’t entirely know what she meant. So I sat it outside in the rain and thought, “That’ll do it!” Well, it ruined the movie, and we couldn’t get a replacement because it had just gone back into the Disney Vault for the better part of a decade. Nevertheless, it has always stood out as a childhood favorite and I can still recite much of the dialogue (and of course, the songs!) to this day. When choosing which scenes to recreate, I pulled inspiration from two key moments: when Flora and Merryweather fight over whether the dress should be pink or blue, and when the prince kneels before sleeping Aurora.

Truthfully, I really wanted to dress as Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather because they were my favorite part of the movie. Remember when they’re trying to make Briar Rose’s cake, and have to resort to magic? I can relate to that…”folding” in whole eggs is something I can see myself doing. But hey, there’s always next year! Maybe next year I’ll focus on supporting Disney characters? Villains? There are so many options I’d love to explore. I hope you enjoyed this series!
