How would you describe this look?
I did hand painted balayage on three-quarters of the head (all the hair above the occipital bone) and then did baby light foils on the top, crown, and sides in order to have the thicker pieces peak through the bottom.
The haircut is a modern shag with blended and textured layers throughout to accentuate the color when it’s worn wavy. The hair was blow-dried with a 1.25-inch board hair bristle brush but the look can also be created with a 1.25-inch wand. My favorite thing is the ash tone. My client uses purple shampoo and conditioner weekly at home to counteract gold tones and it has her hair always looks amazing.
Any advice for someone considering it?
Go to someone who is highly trained in balayage techniques. I love the L’Oréal balayage certification program. When the pieces are painted boldly but are still blended it looks incredible. You want to make sure your hair is healthy first before highlighting it and willing to use professional hair products at home.
If your hair is super curly you can also receive this color treatment but the outcome will look different as curly hair doesn’t lie as smoothly. A heat protectant (for example Kerastase Ciment Thermique) that protects up to 450 degrees direct and indirect heat is essential, along with weekly purple shampoo and conditioner (such as Pure violet shampoo and L’Oréal color correcting blondes conditioner) and a texturizing spray after its styled (such as Texture Wave by Shu Uemura).
Even though this style requires good products and regular styling, the maintenance as far as color goes is not high. People can go as long as 4-8 months before this look needs to get touched up as long as there no grey that needs to be covered. This style works for most face shapes and works for classic as well as trendy dressers and personality types.

It’s a fresh, bright, and modern take on a blonde balayage. Balayage allows you to have a dimensional color without the 4-6 week upkeep.
Any advice for someone considering it?
Be realistic about what your hair will do without damaging it. Trust your hair stylist. If a client is able to achieve this level of lightness, we advise taking care of it with conditioning treatments and heat protectant sprays at home. We also advise to not wash every day as that can dry your hair out. Replenish the moisture with a hydrating shampoo and conditioner.

I used a smoothing cream to help soften her course hair along with adding thermal protection so she can keep her locks long and healthy. How would you describe this look?
I love this look because of the contrast between the lowlight and highlights. It’s not too dark or too light and you can feel like both a blonde and/or a brunette. This look can be worn straight and curled and looks great of mid-lengths (bobs) and longer.
Any advice for someone considering it?
While no color is zero maintenance, a color like this can give clients a little more time between appointments whether you’re a natural blonde or natural brunette. The key to maintaining a color like this is purple shampoo! My favorite is Milkshake Purple shampoo to keep the tones ashy.

How would you describe this look?
This look is a textured beachy bronde. I really like the contrast of the darker pieces of natural interspersed with pieces of beige and caramel blonde. I like the type of cut that does have very structured lines and just adding texture to liven it up.
Any advice for someone considering it?
The thing to consider about this look is that it requires multiple techniques to achieve. I used a combination of balayage in foil and in the open air in order to achieve different levels of lightness. Overall though it’s still rather low maintenance as balayage only really need to be to be touched up every 12-20 weeks but you should keep coming in for toning and trims every 6-8 weeks.

How would you describe this look?
This look is a highly dimensional and low maintenance spin on the modern blonde. My favorite thing about it is that while the warm hues in the color keep it looking natural and “off-the-beach,” the strategically placed balayage brightened the face and grows out softly between maintenance appointments.
Any advice for someone considering it?
This color simulates the natural tones present in hair, so it keeps the upkeep at a minimum. I’m a busy woman, so I understand busy women. Being on the go isn’t easy, but feeling naturally beautiful should be. Balayage, while all the rage in hair color trend these days, is so for a reason. It mimics our natural reflection and brightening of the sun in the summertime.
While the color keeps the look feeling beachy, the haircut keeps a comfortable length with soft, texturized layers for easy waving and airdrying. Not every client is up for handling a blow-dryer every morning and if your natural texture can help out, own it! While this photo shows my styled look, the client finds this easy to handle at home.
My maintenance/at-home tip to know on this look is: keep a violet shampoo and some texture spray!

How would you describe this look?
I love this look it’s great for our clients with light hair who still want the two-toned look, darkening the ends gave her a new look without the harshness and the maintenance of changing her roots. This look would be good for a low maintenance client of someone with a busy lifestyle because this look is actually a low maintenance look for women who have blonde to light brown hair, the highlights, and lowlights will help to blend any solid root as it grows in. It’s a nice option for clients who have long hair as the dark color is not as damaging on the ends of the hair as a blonde lightener would be. It’s a great style for fine hair as all the color gives more dimension for a fuller appearance.

How would you describe this look?
I love blondes but the only thing that is hard is the upkeep. That was the case with my client. She also loved her blonde hair but needed something a bit more low maintenance. I suggested doing a color melt on her roots while adding the lowlights for depth, which in turn makes the blonde standout more. As far as the cut, she is in the process of growing out a bob, so I trimmed it and gave her a side swept bang to give it more style.
Any advice for someone considering it?
If you’re a working gal who might not have the time to get into the salon every 4 weeks, this is the style for you. It is trendy and easy to style with just a blow dry or you could even use a wand for a wave look if you’re going out for the night. My favorite products I used on her were Brazilian blowout smoothing serum and Brazilian blowout dry oil.
