13 Best Caesar Haircut Ideas for Guys

A Caesar haircut is a men’s haircut that has a horizontally-cut short fringe styled forward, named after the historically famous Roman Emperor Julius Caesar and sometimes referred to as a French crop.

The traditional Caesar cut was worn by men who experienced early onset baldness or hair thinning. Although in the modern world, this cut can be seen infused with various styles, shapes, and textures. It’s still recommended for guys who have thin hair, especially now that contemporary versions of this cut are styled to be more textured and faded.

No touch-ups and only a little maintenance and styling are needed for this emperor French crop. No wonder why leading Hollywood movie actors Zac Efron, George Clooney, and Russell Crowe have been sporting this classic hairstyle in and out the set!

How would you describe this look?

This look is a classic that is always on the rise. It had its most recent emphasis in the ’90s and is now being innovated with new techniques that are changing and adapting to the more modern style without losing the retro style. What I like most about this cut is that it is light, easy to pack, and makes the person look very stylish.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Observe the shape of your face, as it looks better on elongated faces with pointed or square jaws. For those who have a round or oval touch on the face, be more careful on this choice since the cut can emphasize that. In this cut I used all Paul Mitchell products, ending with Super Sculpt and with a Reformer wax (stronghold/matte finish). It is also used in people who have straight hair with not much volume, but it is very interesting in curly hair too when the bunch is more open to not get heavy. This hair goes well with relaxed, modern people with a more flexible lifestyle and who likes to present themselves in a youthful and uncluttered way.

How would you describe this look?

To have this hairstyle, it means you like looking shaggy and clean at the same time, which I think is perfect for anybody who is trying to be edgy yet still conservative. My favorite thing about it will have to be that it’s nearly effortless as far as styling, depending on the kind of texture your hair has. You can pretty much jump out of bed and go.

Any advice for someone considering it?

For those who have wavy or curly hair, I think this haircut would be perfect just because it’s very hard to style if you try to do something else. With the crop, you can just run over the hair with some paste or matte product “to keep it down”. I personally believe that if your head is wide, oblong, square or round, you can still pull it off. If needed, you can leave a little more hair at the crown or down by the nape (occipital bone). The fade can be adjusted by your barber, he should be able to tell you how high or low your fade will have to be depending on the length and head shape.

I see this haircut on very trendy dudes or what I call hype beasts! I’ve seen tattoo artists, musicians, barbers, models, and just about anyone from different lifestyles rock this haircut and if you are thinking about doing it, then consult with your barber, hairdresser, stylist etc.

How would you describe this look?

This cut of mine is “The Curly Crop.”

Actually, my favorite part about this haircut is how easy it is to do at home. It looks visually amazing with a nice clean skin fade shape through the sides, left nice and heavy through the recession line so that those curls just sit down into the skin fade nice and effortlessly.

Any advice for someone considering it?

If you have curly hair, that can sometimes be a bit difficult to manage yourself at home. You can dry your hair using medium head medium speed to take most of the excess water out and then apply some styling cream to the damp hair and let it dry naturally. Once the hair is dry you run your hands through it and the curls work perfectly with the styling cream. I’ve used American Crew forming cream a lot with curly hair and it’s a beautiful finish.

Alternatively, if the hair is dry you can use clever dust/boost powder, sprinkle that over the hair, and it again just works beautifully.

The reason I have left this client’s fringe nice and long is to complement his face shape. If I cut it really short, it would have made his face look really long.

How would you describe this look?

This haircut, in particular, is pretty common. A lot of guys these days love their skin fades. My favorite thing about a skin fade generally comes down to hair type and color. This client, in particular, has great hair for a soft/blurry fade while still having shadows where it’s needed with the addition of a side part with some weight.

Any advice for someone considering it?

I’d definitely advise using product, even using a hair dryer to really push the hair over to the side. Using a comb to separate the part and the top of the hair really helps too and keeps it looking somewhat fresh. In my opinion, these haircuts suit summer time!
