The high top fade (or hi-top fade) is a haircut for black men with a long afro on top that’s shaped flat and gradually fades to very short sides. Hailing from the 1980s, this cut is a favorite among black men for its indefinite variations of styles to choose from! You can even pair your look with a hipster beard and an impressive fade art to complete the freshest look!
One of the classic hi-top fade looks was popularized by the legendary Will Smith, and now its modern versions can be seen on son Jaden Smith and basketball star Nick Young!
The face shape plays a great role in deciding the shape of your high-top and how high you should go because you don’t want to end up with an imbalanced result. You get to choose the kind of fade to partner with depending on your style and personality. Visit your barber every once in a while if you wanna keep the shape of your top hair looking sharp and your sides clean.
Once you’ve decided on these things, you’re ready to own an outstanding haircut. Check out these dope looks on how to wear a high top fade!

Naturally Curly Hair with Bald Fade

How would you describe this look?
It’s a mid-to-high skin fade with natural curls on top complemented with a dark blended beard. When it comes to creating this haircut, I enjoy every step of the process – blurring out the fade to doing the lineup to sculpting and perfecting the beard. However, my favorite part of the whole thing is the dry razor shave. Misting out a puff of hairspray on the beard and going over it with a razor gets that crisp line up that’ll have the cut lasting that much longer.
Any advice for someone considering it?
Clients who are considering this type of cut would want to grow their hair on the top for a couple of months depending on the length they started at. This type of hair is considered to be tight curls. Styling it only requires a light pomade applied to the top, then I use the Twist It Up comb to make the curls more defined. This is an edgy look – the combination of a messy top and clean faded sides are synonymous to organized chaos. You can combine this cut with a suit or if you want to be comfortable hanging out on the weekends.

How would you describe this look?
For me, a good looking fresh hairstyle means the beginning of something new, a good day or a new adventure is about to take place. Once your hair is done, one feels more confident about who they are, ready to conquer anything, and more importantly, feels pretty handsome or beautiful.
My favorite thing about this look is how I let my creativity, passion, uniqueness, and challenges take over. I love taking risks when it comes to my client’s satisfaction. I love to see that happy face afterward. For this special one, my client desired to have a fresh new haircut, modern, something unique, and fashionable
In that event, I let my imagination took place and created this beautiful work of art.
Any advice for someone considering it?
It depends on a variety of things such as their daily routine activities, the setting that they socialize more on a daily basis, style, and personality. In addition, be aware of what their hair type is, the products that suit them best since each hair type differs from one another, just as skin type. Define if their hair is thin, curly, thick etc. Finally, how this look will convene to their daily style and personality regarding their face shape such as oval, long, round, and so on.
